I've been sitting in the front seats since I was 7 or 8. Then again I was tall enough for the requirement. I think it should be fine by that point if the airbag is on.

IIRC modern cars airbags go off by the speed of impact and the weight in the seat.

I don't want to sound stupid, but wouldn't both these people have glass all over them after that? Is car glass special in a way that it doesn't impale you?

I dont know that, i just know that the windshield doesn't break into million pieces and fall over.
